My name is Melika...I live in a very remote region of Western Ethiopia.

The women and children from my small village, walk many miles,4-5 times each day, to gather water from nearby streams and rivers.

We fill our large yellow containers with 40-50 pounds of water and return home with thewater jugs strapped on our backs.

​

This dirty water from the river is used to cook with, but also to bathe and play in, and animals drink from these rivers too. This disease ridden water, that we work so very hard to obtain, causes us to become ill and eventually die...
