GIVE:WHAT
Our medical teams provide
medical care, medications,
immunizations, medical supplies,
clothes, shoes, reading glasses,
institute clean water programs and
teach communities about
nutrition and preventative
health care meaures.
We treat hundreds of people
each day, many of who have
never seen a doctor in their
entire life and will walk 3-4 days
just to be seen in our clinics.
We provide local hospitals and
clinics with needed equipment,
medical supplies and training
as they work to continue
the programs that we have helped
them create. Our teams strive to improve the quality of life for
every person we encounter.
Medical Care
Basic healthcare in Africa is very limited and in some remote areas, almost non-existent. Most people suffer from diseases such
as malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid, intestinal parasites, diarrhea and AIDS.
A staggering 85% of these
diseases are caused by
UNCLEAN WATER.
Many of these illnesses can be improved or eliminated with clean water programs, basic medical care and preventative health education.
Our goal is to greatly reduce the incidence of preventable diseases
in impoverished countries
around the world.
Clean Water Solutions
Since 85% of diseases in Ethiopia are caused by unclean water, we believe that it is essential that we do all we can to provide solutions to this incredible problem. Each year, 70,000 children around the world die from malnutrition caused by recurrent diarrhea. Worldwide 42% of Malaria cases can be eliminated by changing the water environment, which includes water treatment, sanitation, and providing improved irrigation options to limit standing water. The water/sanitation education we offer is a crucial part of preventing these common and deadly diseases that are found primarily in Africa. We partner with other organizations to find and implement creative, sustainable clean water solutions, which, in turn, will reduce the incidence of disease.
My name is Melika...I llive in a very remote region of Western Ethiopia.
The women and children from the small villages where I live walk many miles,
many times each day, to gather water from nearby streams and rivers. We fill large containers with 40-50 pounds of water and return home with the
water jugs strapped on our backs.
This dirty water from the river is used to cook with, but also to bathe and play in and we even share these streams with animals. This disease ridden water, that we work so very hard to obtain, causes us to become ill and eventually die...
IMAGINE FOR A MOMENT
what it would be like if you had no clean water to drink...
Not only do we provide Medical Care, Medicines, Medical Supplies and
Water Solutions...
WE GIVE...
Glasses, Shoes, Clothes, and
TEDDY BEARS!!!
1 in 5 Children will not reach
the age of 5 and many of those
who survive will be orphaned as most adults die from
preventable diseases such as Malaria before the age of 40....
GIVE: WHERE
Doctors Giving Back is currently working in the forgotten land of Ethiopia Africa. We do much of our work in the Western part of Ethiopia known as the
Benishangul-Gumuz region
which borders Sudan.
In this region, there is only
One hospital for its almost
One Million residents.
The regional hospital, in the
small town of Assosa, has only
2 doctors and 1 surgeon.
The hospital has very limited supplies and medications.
The average annual income is less than $100 (USD) which makes this predominately rural region one of the poorest in the world.
GIVE:WHO...Our Mission
Doctors Giving Back is a medical relief organization made up of individuals with diverse backgrounds including doctors, nurses, teachers, students, homemakers, engineers, accountants, business executives and friends, all with the desire of giving hope and changing the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. The mission of Doctors Giving Back is to conduct health outreach programs in undeveloped and impoverished African countries by providing medical care, medicines, immunizations, supplies, education, clean water programs and other resources for the destitute people living in these countries.
We Need YOU!!
Whether it is by volunteering to join our team or through your generous donations,
YOU are the most important part of making these goals and dreams a reality!
At Home Volunteers
For those of you who wish to volunteer but are not quite ready to go half way around the world to join us, we need you here!! There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities in which you can participate and have a life-changing impact. These include: fundraising, event planning, marketing, and trip preparation. If you have any interest or expertise in these areas or just want to help out wherever needed, please let us know. We cannot do what we do without our "at home" volunteers.
Contact us for more information on how you can help right here at home.
Join a Team
There is always a need for more volunteers to make the trips to Africa. The more volunteers we have, the more trips we are able to make and the more lives we change. Although medical training is beneficial, non-medical personnel can also greatly contribute to our teams. The trips are 2-3 weeks and allow teams to participate in medical clinics, hospital and facility construction/renovation projects, village outreach and to lead water and sanitation education seminars. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and joining us on a trip to Africa, please contact us for more information.
